At whatever stage of their cancer journey, my aim is to help my client regain a sense of optimism and purpose in life, which may help recovery. A cancer diagnosis raises many issues and emotions. Transpersonal psychothrapy techniques such as visualisation, creative imagery and meditation, are valuable ways to support the body in fighting the illness.
From the initial shock and despair at the first news, to questions like – what now? at the end of the cancer journey – whether that be full recovery or the acceptance of life limiting illness. With sensitivity and empathy, I have helped clients at all stages of their cancer journey.
I have extensive experience in cancer support and worked at the Bristol Cancer Help Centre (now Penny Brohn Cancer Care) for many years as part of both their psychotherapy and education teams. I have also worked in the NHS as a clinical supervisor for specialist cancer nurses, and offer mentoring for professionals (such as oncologists) who want support and a psychological perspective on their work.
